The Department of Microbiology organized a National Webinar on “Site specific mapping of oral microbiome and resistome in young adult healthy subjects using next generation sequencing” on 25th of February 2022. Dr. T. Yugendran, Principal scientist, Elango Genetics Pvt Ltd delivered a lecture. He elaborated the audience with his experiences in genomic sequencing of oral microbiome and resistomes, its clinical implication and future research prospective. The presentation was followed by meaningful and healthy discussion among the guest speaker and the delegates. The webinar was well attended by students and faculties from our institution and others. A total of 280 delegates attended, including students and faculties with 151 external delegates registered. The information provided by the speaker was very useful to the students, researchers and all the participants

National Webinar on "Mycotic Infection during COVID-19 -A biologist approach"
The Department of Microbiology organized a National Webinar on “Mycotic infection during COVID-19 - A biologist approach” on 29th of January 2022. The speaker was Dr.P.Samuel, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. He enlightened the students and scholars about common mycotic infections including infections caused by common fungi, Candida with a special emphasis on Mucormycosis, which is observed in immunocompromised patients. He provided a detailed presentation on the pathogenesis, treatment of mucormycosis. The information provided by the speaker was very useful to the students and participants, especially in the present pandemic condition.

Industrial Visit organised by the department of Microbiology
Faculty from orange lab (Department of Microbiology) arranged an Institutional visit for the undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department of Biotechnology, DG Vaishnav College on 23rd and 24th of November 2021. The students had an advanced bio-instrumentation training by visiting white lab, Blue lab, STEM and FACS lab. The researchers in all the labs collaborated with the program and exhibited their research works for the staff and students. At the end of the visit, the staff and students, recorded a positive feedback with a promise for future collaborative research works.
