Department of Microbiology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals was established in the year 1988. The department is housed on the first floor of the Basic Medical sciences block with a sufficient plinth area embraced with comfortable seating and ventilation. The department is sufficiently staffed and adequately equipped with instruments, A.C lecture hall, department library, diagnostic division, and modern teaching aids. The faculty members are highly qualified and experienced in teaching and in conducting high-end research. The faculty members conduct research training, design projects for undergraduates, post-graduate students, and doctoral students and help them in executing the projects.

Students from other colleges/institutions approach us for their project works. In the current year, we have completed more than 300 projects with original research works published in indexed national and international journals. We have papers published in Nature group of Journals, Frontiers etc., that show our expertise in the field. We are proud to record that, the guided research papers for our students are published in high-impact journals, and students had made their presentations in many International forums as well. The department is a reference center for other dental colleges in the city. The students and faculty members from other dental colleges approach us for expert opinion on their research and for guidance towards our consultancy services. The staff member holds the position of Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators in major funded research project grants from National bodies and also possesses patents.

The Clinical Genetics lab, is an extension of the department, which caters to the need of research scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students. The lab hosts numerous facilities for conducting genomics and proteomics research.
